Description
A showstopping ornamental grass, Savannah Ruby Grass features deep pink-red inflorescences that begin to emerge midsummer opening to a shiny, shimmering pink. The iridescent blooms last a long time, creating a rainbow of pink shades throughout the growing season that age to a muted, buff color. The blooms are soft and have the texture of chenille standing out beautiful against the blue-green foliage. A native of Africa, the plant loves the sun and is drought tolerant. That said, it blooms and performs its best with a consistently damp to moist but well-drained soil throughout the bloom season. Excellent as an accent in small garden spaces or containers or in groupings or mass plantings in larger landscape spaces.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 18 to 24 inches tall and 15 to 18 inches wide, Savannah Ruby Grass is ideal for use as an accent in small garden spaces and containers, or in groupings or mass plantings in sunny landscape borders and home foundation plantings. For those who garden north of USDA ZOne 8a, this grass can be grown in containers that can be overwintered indoors. A fine addition to ornamental grass gardens, pink theme gardens, rock gardens, around garden ponds, and in cut flower gardens.
Suggested Spacing:Â 15 to 18 inches apart for mass plantings;Â 3 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
Savannah Ruby Grass is very easy to grow in most any damp to moist but well-drained soil of average to low fertility and full sun. We suggest at least 7 hours of direct sunlight per day for best flowering and overall performance. Constantly soggy soil or standing water is problematic. Plants are quite drought tolerant once established though bloom is best with a damp to moist well-drained soil. Maintenance is little to none.
