Description
One of if not the prettiest Echinacea to ever grace our gardens, Pretty Parasols Coneflower features lovely flowers with white petals and a dark pink halo that surrounds a bronze center cone. Beginning in early to mid summer and continuing through fall, the flowers open randomly and at various heights on the plant providing a “wild” look in the garden. The flower stems are very strong and won’t flop, even in rain, and there are multiple flowers per stem. Butterflies love the flowers, birds love the seeds, and the flowers are great for cutting and use in flower arrangements. Very easy to grow and low-maintenance, as with other versions of our North American native coneflowers Pretty Parasols is an easy-to-grow and low maintenance hardy perennial. It is drought tolerant when established, wind resistant, cold hardy to -20F, heat resistant to Zone 9b, and deer tend to turn their nose up to. At up to 3 feet tall and 24 inches wide, this beauty is a good fit as an accent in smaller garden spaces and containers or in stunning groupings where space allows.
Landscape & Garden Uses
At up to 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide, the Pretty Parasols Coneflower is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces, as a solo or mixed with other plants containers, or grouped in sunny to lightly shaded perennial and woodland borders. A fine addition to butterfly gardens, bird gardens, cut flower gardens, pink theme gardens, cottage gardens, wildflower gardens and meadow gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 18 inches apart for groupings or mass plantings; 3.5 feet apart for space between plants.
Growing Preferences
Pretty Parasols Coneflower is easy to grow and adaptable plant that is tolerant of drought, heat, humidity and poor soil. It prefers a moist to light damp and well-drained soil of average fertility but will tolerate low fertility soils. Will flower heavier in full sun but also blooms quite well in part shade. We suggest at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day for best overall performance. Spent flowers can be removed through the long bloom season, but do leave some on the plant towards the end of the season for the birds to enjoy.
Plant Long & Prosper!
