Description
They sure did get name right on this one! The Incrediball Blush Smooth Hydrangea is a incredibly cold hardy North American native flowering shrub that sails through winters in USDA Zone where the average low winter temperature dips to -40F. Over an incredibly long bloom period from summer reblooming all the way to frost, this beauty produces an abundance of incredibly massive clusters of soft pink flowers perched atop sturdy stems. The blooms are as large as they come and perfect for cutting and use in fresh and dried flower arrangements. Smooth hydrangeas of the easiest and most reliable types you can grow, especially in cold climates. They can be grown in full sun in cooler climates but will appreciate afternoon shade in warmer climates.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a rounded mound 4 to 5 feet tall and equally as wide, Incrediball Blush Hydrangea is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or a colorful hedge in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to Hydrangea gardens, cutting gardens, pink theme gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 4 feet apart for solid hedges; 8 or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Incrediball Blush Hydrangea is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil with average fertility and full sun to part shade in cooler northern zones and part shade (morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun) in warmer southern zones. For best flowering, we suggest 4 hours of direct sun light per day. As with so many other ornamental plants, a constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic. Flower color is your choice. Acidic soils will make blue flowers while a neutral to slightly alkaline soil will make pink flowers.
Pruning Tip: In early spring, just as the new growth begins to emerge on the stems, cut the plant back by about one-third its height. That’s it!
