Description
A North American native perennial and top rated pollinator plant with a name that perfectly describes it, Fireworks Goldenrod puts on an astonishing fall season display when its fountain of slender, arching branches become covered in golden-yellow daisy-like flowers. Fresh cut flower stems are great for use in flower arrangements and bouquets. All grown up, Fireworks is a shorter, more compact, and less stoloniferous variety than some of the other Goldenrods. Virtually maintenance free, all we do to the plants in our gardens is cut them back to about 3 to 4 inches above the ground in late winter. Exceptionally easy to grow in all regions of the U.S. and the butterflies, bees and other pollinators will thank you for planting this one while the deer and rabbits, who turn their nose up to it, will be saddened!Â
PLEASE NOTE: Contrary to popular belief, Goldenrod (Solidago) does not cause allergies. It’s pollen is sticky so does not blow in the wind. Bees transfer it from plant to plant. If you experience allergy symptoms during the fall it’s most likely from ragweed, which blooms at about the same time as goldenrod.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to about 3.5 feet tall and wide, Fireworks Goldenrod is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and mixed container gardens and is truly breathtaking in groupings or mass plantings in sunny landscape or woodland borders and perennial gardens. A fine addition to butterfly, pollinator, cut flower, cottage and yellow color theme gardens.
Suggested Spacing:Â 2 feet apart for mass plantings; 5 feet apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Fireworks Goldenrod is very easy to grow in most any well-drained but moist soil in full sun or part shade. Flowering will be heavier with more sun. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sun for best flowering.
