As summer approaches the leaves begin to develop attractive shades of purple, red and pink that intensify as the season progresses well into fall. In late summer, rising above the colorful foliage are contrasting burgundy-red flowers that open to fluffy, silver seed heads. At 3 to 4 feet tall and half as wide, Chameleon is a colorful accent in smaller garden spaces and containers, or grouping in larger spaces. Just provide 6 hours or more of sun per day and well-draining soil, including dry, clay, gravel or sandy soils. The Chameleon Little Bluestem Grass is exceptionally easy to grow in well-drained average to poor soils with dry to medium moisture in full sun. It tolerates a wide range of soil types ranging from clay to sandy or rocky. Good drought resistance once established and tolerates both high heat and humidity. Plants can be cut back to just above the ground in late winter or early spring before new growth appears.
