Description
An easy-to-grow native perennial sunflower with truly amazing flower power and color that is sure to light up the garden in summer and fall, Helianthus salicifolius ‘Autumn Gold’ features a profusion of brilliant yellow daisies over a long blooming period from mid summer well into fall when many other flowering perennials are wrapping up their bloom season, and also when flowers are needed most by butterflies and other beneficial pollinators and birds. The flowers sit atop a 24 inch high and wide mound of leathery, dark green narrow leaves, hence Willowleaf in the common name. A great choice as an accent in smaller garden spaces and pots or in groupings or as a border in garden beds.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a mound to only 2 feet tall and wide, Autumn Gold Sunflower is ideal for use as an accent specimen in smaller garden spaces and pots or in groupings or as a border in gardens beds or along paths and walkways. A fine addition perennial gardens, meadow gardens, native gardens, wildflower gardens, bird gardens and yellow theme gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 18 inches apart for groupings or as a solid border; 42 inches or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Autumn Gold Sunflower is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. Flowering is heavier with more sun. It is drought tolerant when established. Maintenance is minimal. Cut the plant back annually in late winter or early spring prior to or just when new growth begins to emerge.
